Gannon University Hosts Tri-State Model United Nations Conference
Over 200 high school students from across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York convened at Gannon University November 7-8 for the annual Model United Nations Weekend. the event, a 73-year tradition, provides a dynamic platform for students to engage with critical global issues and develop collaborative problem-solving skills.
A Weekend of Diplomacy and Debate
Model United Nations conferences simulate the work of the United Nations, allowing students to step into the roles of diplomats representing different countries. Participants research, debate, and negotiate resolutions on a wide range of complex topics. This year’s agenda included pressing challenges like mitigating the effects of atomic radiation and preserving endangered languages.
Gannon University’s Model United Nations chapter meticulously planned the conference for over a year. Their dedication ensured a smooth and impactful experience for all attendees.
“Students come onto Gannon’s campus this weekend to debate different topics and different communities,” explained Cadence hoover, Gannon Model U.N. Secretary General and a senior political science major. “They debate, they find solutions, and we recognize outstanding delegates for their contributions.”
