The news of this auction comes after the tragic passing of Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, in February. Initial reports described their deaths as “suspicious.” Though,subsequent investigations revealed a more complex story.
An autopsy report determined that Hackman died from heart disease, complicated by advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Arakawa’s death was attributed to a rare respiratory illness caused by hantavirus.
