A recent conversation revealed a surprising near-miss in Wright’s career – a potential jump to rival promotion World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during the height of the Monday Night Wars.
A Near Jump to the New World order
Wright disclosed details of contract discussions with WCW that would have seen him join the iconic New World Order (nWo) faction. The agreement appeared finalized, but ultimately fell through due to financial disagreements, leading WCW to offer the role to another former WWE performer.
“The only time that I was going to… we had the deal was with the nWo… I was supposed to join the nWo,” Wright explained. “I was re-signing as the Godfather. We’re working out deals. And so they gave me a call, and we worked out a three-year deal. Alright? so now I’m waiting for the contract to come. And I’m like calling the people that I need to talk to call.
