Julia Grabher falls to Kalinskaya at Australian Open, sees Ranking Rise
Melbourne, Australia – Julia Grabher, the 29-year-old Austrian tennis player, was eliminated from the Australian Open on thursday, falling to Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya, the number 31 seed, in straight sets 3-6, 3-6 after 73 minutes of play. Despite the loss,Grabher is projected to improve her WTA world ranking.

Grabher, who previously reached the second round at the French Open in 2023, struggled with the windy conditions adn her opponent’s adaptability. “It was a bit arduous, it was quite windy. my opponent simply adjusted to it better,” Grabher stated after the match. She also acknowledged her own errors, noting missed opportunities despite strong starts to both sets, leading 2-0 on two occasions.
the first set saw Grabher briefly regain a break at 2-2, but Kalinskaya responded to secure a 5-3 lead and ultimately close out the set 6-3. In the second set, Grabher initially led 3-1 before Kalinskaya dominated the remainder of the set.

Despite the second-round exit, Grabher is expected to see a positive shift in the WTA rankings.
