A doctor in‌ Trapani, Sicily, has been ⁤convicted⁢ of manslaughter by ⁣negligence in the death of Giuseppe Maniscalco, ​a vice commander in the Carabinieri ⁢police force. The ruling⁤ was delivered on January 13,⁢ 2026, by‌ a judge in ‍a single-judge proceeding.

The Case

According ⁣to‍ the indictment, the doctor, whose name has​ not been publicly released, was called‍ to Maniscalco’s⁣ home at ⁣3:20 AM on February 20, 2021, ⁢to treat the patient for ‌persistent chest pain suggestive of an acute‍ coronary syndrome.Instead of performing necessary diagnostic tests, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), or recommending immediate ‍hospitalization, the‍ doctor allegedly attributed ‍Maniscalco’s symptoms to a recent COVID-19 vaccination.⁣ Giuseppe Maniscalco ⁣died a‍ few hours later, at 8:50 AM on ⁢February 20, 2021, ​from cardiac arrest.
