Liverpool Recall Young Midfielder Lewis Koumas From Birmingham City Loan
Liverpool, England – January 26, 2026 – Liverpool Football Club has confirmed the return of promising young midfielder Lewis Koumas from his loan spell at Birmingham City.The 20-year-old returns to Anfield having gained valuable Championship experience during his time with the Blues.
Koumas joined Birmingham City on a temporary transfer in August of last year, quickly becoming a regular feature in the squad. He made a total of 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal for the Championship side. This loan represented his second foray into England’s second tier, following a previous spell with Stoke City during the 2024-25 season.
The Welsh international, who has nine caps for his country, previously made his senior debut for Liverpool in February 2024, marking the occasion with a goal against Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup. This early taste of first-team action at Anfield provided a significant boost to his development.
Koumas initially joined Liverpool’s academy system as an U11 player from Tranmere Rovers, progressing through the ranks to become a highly-regarded prospect within the club. His return to Liverpool offers manager Arne Slot the opportunity to assess his progress and potential contribution to the first team during the remainder of the season.
