A concerning trend has emerged in Luxembourg, with 98 babies lost to stillbirth in 2024. These are infants who tragically died during pregnancy or during the birthing process, and the data is tracked separately from the nation’s overall mortality statistics. The issue is particularly sensitive, especially as the number of stillbirths has generally been increasing over the past two decades, with only occasional yearly dips.
“We have observed an increase in stillbirths in recent years,” confirmed the Ministry of Health on Monday. According to data from the Health Directorate, eight out of every 1,000 births in Luxembourg in 2024 resulted in a stillbirth. This is a rise from the rates of six in both 2023 and 2022, and five in 2021 and 2020. A similar rate hadn’t been seen as 1976. Health officials have stated that this advancement must be analyzed more closely in the future
