SEATTLE – the Seattle Mariners announced on January 24, 2026, that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Criswell on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Jhonathan Díaz was designated for assignment.
Criswell, 29, appeared in seven Major League games (one start) for the Boston Red Sox in 2025, posting a 1-0 record wiht a 3.57 ERA (7 earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched). MLB.com reported he was claimed off waivers by the Mets on december 5, 2025, and subsequently designated for assignment on January 21, 2026.
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Criswell has pitched in parts of five Major League seasons with the Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024-25). The 6-foot-6 right-hander has a career record of 8-7 with a 4.48 ERA (77 earned runs in 154.2 innings) across 45 MLB games, including 21 starts. Díaz,also 29,made one appearance for the Mariners in 2025. He spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he lead the Pacific Coast League with a 4.15 ERA (64 earned runs in 138.2 innings) across 27 appearances (26 starts).
