SEATTLE – ‌ the Seattle ​Mariners ​announced on January 24, 2026, that⁢ they have acquired ⁤right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Criswell on the 40-man⁣ roster, left-handed ⁣pitcher Jhonathan⁣ Díaz was designated for​ assignment.

Criswell, 29, appeared ⁢in seven Major⁢ League games (one start) for the Boston⁣ Red Sox in 2025, posting ‌a 1-0 record wiht a ⁣3.57‌ ERA (7 earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched).‌ MLB.com ​ reported he was ⁤claimed off waivers ⁢by the Mets on december 5, 2025, and subsequently designated for assignment on January 21, 2026.

Originally drafted by the Los ⁢Angeles Angels ​in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, ‌Criswell has pitched ⁢in parts of five Major ⁤League seasons with⁣ the Angels (2021),⁣ Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and ⁣Red ⁢Sox ⁣(2024-25). The 6-foot-6 right-hander has a career record of 8-7 with a 4.48 ERA (77 earned ⁣runs in 154.2 innings) across 45 MLB games, ‍including 21‌ starts.
