mclaren’s Constructors’ Crown: A Foundation, Not a Finish Line
McLaren Racing has secured the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, a monumental achievement marking a return to the pinnacle of the sport after a 26-year drought. However, team principal Zak Brown insists this victory isn’t a moment for complacency, but rather a springboard for continued success. The team is keenly aware that the championship battle isn’t entirely over, with Max Verstappen remaining a significant threat in the drivers’ standings.
Recent Challenges & Verstappen’s Momentum
Recent races haven’t been without their frustrations for McLaren. Oscar Piastri experienced setbacks at the italian Grand Prix due to a slow pit stop. Lando Norris faced a tense moment in Singapore, narrowly avoiding contact with Piastri after an aggressive move for position.
Verstappen has consistently outperformed both McLaren drivers in the last three races, highlighting his ongoing competitiveness.Brown acknowledges this, stating, “While we’d like it to solely come down to our two guys, Max is still very much in the game.”
Maintaining Focus & Hunger for Victory
Despite clinching the constructors’ title, McLaren’s approach remains unchanged. The team is committed to maintaining its focused and humble attitude. brown emphasized, “Our strategy isn’t going to change because we’ve won the constructors’ – we’re going to approach the remaining race weekends likewise we’ve approached every one before it.”
This dedication stems from a deep-seated desire to win. “That’s what we’re here to do: win races and win championships,” Brown affirmed. “And we couldn’t be hungrier.”
A Historic Comeback
McLaren’s resurgence is particularly noteworthy given their long period without a constructors’ championship, dating back to 1998. before that, the team enjoyed a period of dominance from 1988 to 1992, establishing itself as a legendary force in Formula 1.
Now,Piastri and Norris are aiming to secure the drivers’ championship,a title last claimed by Mika Häkkinen in 1999.
Looking Ahead: New Regulations & Future Dynasty
While the ambition to build a lasting dynasty is present, Brown stresses the importance of focusing on the present. He echoes the sentiment of team member Andrea Stella, stating, “You don’t race trying to create a legacy, you show up every weekend, focused on what you need to do that weekend, and then, the results and the history books take care of themselves.”
The 2025 season will bring significant changes with a complete overhaul of aerodynamic and engine regulations. Brown recognizes the challenges this presents. “Next year, with the new regulations,is going to be even tougher,” he explained.
He acknowledges the inherent risks and opportunities that come with such a substantial rule change. “This year, we had the benefit of working within regulations that we knew. But we’re now entering a new era, with one of the biggest regulation changes in the history of F1.”
Ultimately, McLaren’s current success is a testament to their dedication, strategic approach, and unwavering commitment to winning. They are poised to navigate the challenges ahead and continue their pursuit of excellence in the ever-evolving world of formula 1.
