Mickey Rourke Denounces Crowdfunding Campaign Set Up in His Name
Mickey Rourke has vehemently disavowed a crowdfunding campaign launched earlier this month purportedly to help him avoid eviction from his los Angeles home. The campaign, which raised over $100,000 before being frozen, was initiated without his knowledge or consent, and Rourke has expressed outrage at the attempt to solicit funds in his name.
Initial Outcry and Denial
The GoFundMe appeal, started on January 4, aimed to raise $60,000 to cover Rourke’s overdue rent. Shortly after its launch, Rourke publicly denounced the campaign, stating, “I wouldn’t take a nickel of charity.” He added, in a graphic statement, that he would “rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger” than accept the money The Guardian.
