Notre Dame Faces Early Season Injury Challenges with Key Offensive Players
Notre Dame’s upcoming 2025 season is already navigating potential hurdles as Coach Marcus Freeman anticipates the return of two crucial offensive starters from injury, though precise timelines remain uncertain. These absences will test the team’s depth and adaptability as they prepare for a challenging schedule.
Offensive Line Stability in Question
Charles Jagusah, a projected starter at right guard, is recovering from arm surgery. He sustained a broken humerus in a utility terrain vehicle accident earlier this month in Wyoming.
Jagusah’s injury history is a concern, as he previously missed important time last season with a torn pectoral muscle. Remarkably, he battled back to contribute during Notre Dame’s College Football playoff run, playing guard in the semifinal and starting at left tackle in the national championship game.
currently, sophomore Sullivan Absher is stepping up to fill the right guard position. Freeman has praised Absher’s performance, noting he’s currently among the team’s best five offensive linemen. Absher gained valuable experience in 2024, seeing action on the offensive line and special teams.
Tight End Depth Tested
Cooper Flanagan, a key receiving threat at tight end, is also working his way back to full health. He suffered a left Achilles’ tendon injury during the CFP quarterfinal against Georgia in the sugar Bowl last season.
Flanagan’s absence impacts Notre Dame’s passing game, as he recorded four receptions, including two touchdowns, in 2024. Senior Eli Raridon and other tight ends will be relied upon to shoulder the responsibility at the position until Flanagan returns.
Looking Ahead to the Season Opener
These injuries present early challenges for the Fighting Irish. However, the coaching staff remains optimistic about the players’ recoveries and the team’s overall preparedness.
Notre Dame will kick off its 2025 season on August 31st with a highly anticipated road game against Miami. You can expect a competitive matchup as both programs aim to establish themselves as contenders early in the season.
for fans, staying informed about player progress and roster developments will be key as the season unfolds. The team’s ability to overcome these early setbacks will undoubtedly be a significant factor in their success.
