Don’t celebrate just yet.The deal isn’t finalized. While it’s true that Junior is actively pursuing the signing of Luis Fernando Muriel, and significant progress has been made, the final decision rests with Orlando City, the team that currently holds the Colombian striker’s contract until the end of the year.
Fuad Char Abdala, a key stakeholder in the club, confirmed to reporters on Wednesday afternoon that an agreement on salary terms has been reached with the player. However, he emphasized that they are still awaiting a response from the Major League Soccer (MLS) team regarding their offer.
“We have reached an agreement with the player himself. Now, we are hoping for approval from the team,” Char Abdala stated.
The resolution regarding Muriel’s potential move to Junior is expected within the next few hours, or by Thursday morning at the latest. The forward is reportedly eager and excited about the possibility of playing for his boyhood club.
The Return of a Prodigal Son: Luis Fernando Muriel to Junior?
Muriel previously developed within Junior’s youth system, but his journey took him to Deportivo Cali at the guidance of talent scout Agustín Garizábalo. It was at Deportivo Cali that he began to showcase his goal-scoring prowess, drawing comparisons to Iván René valenciano in his early professional years.
His talent quickly propelled him to European football, where he spent a considerable portion of his career. More recently, he has been playing for Orlando City.
I’ve found that players returning to their roots often bring a unique level of passion and commitment, and Muriel’s history with Junior certainly suggests that would be the case here.
