Path of Exile 2 on Switch 2: A Potential Future, But Not a Current Priority
The question of whether Path of Exile 2 will grace the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has been on the minds of many fans. Grinding Gear Games (GGG) acknowledges the requests, but a port isn’t currently in progress. Here’s a detailed look at the situation, alongside exciting updates coming to the game on December 12th.
Switch 2 Port: A Matter of Resources
During recent discussions, GGG’s Jonathan Rogers addressed the possibility of a Switch 2 version. While not dismissing it outright, he emphasized the meaningful challenges.
“It’s been suggested to us a few times, but… it’s not like it couldn’t happen,” Rogers explained.”It’s just one of those things where we have a lot to be doing that isn’t that right now.”
The core issue? GGG’s engine team is remarkably small – just four people – and already stretched thin supporting existing platforms. Prioritizing performance improvements on current platforms takes precedence. A Switch 2 port will be revisited once the team feels confident in the game’s stability across all existing systems.
Path of Exile 2: December 12th Update - What to Expect
Mark your calendars! December 12th brings a significant quarterly update to Path of Exile 2, packed with improvements and new content. Here’s a breakdown:
* Performance Boost: Expect noticeable improvements to overall game performance. This is a key focus for GGG, paving the way for potential future platform considerations.
* New Druid Class: A brand new Druid class will be available, expanding character build options.
* New League (World): Dive into a fresh league experience centered around an underground temple. This temple is inspired by the innovative mechanics of the indie hit Loop Hero,requiring you to piece it together as you explore.
Addressing Player Feedback: The Delirium Fog
Beyond the major additions, GGG is responding directly to player concerns.The infamous Delirium fog,a frequent source of frustration,is receiving a significant overhaul.
The Path of Exile 2 subreddit has been flooded with memes highlighting the visibility issues caused by the fog. GGG has listened.
Rogers confirmed the fog has been “toned down significantly.” It will remain a core element of Delirium worlds, but the experience will be dramatically improved.
Here’s how they’re tackling the problem:
- Removing mandatory Instilling: Previously, a game mechanic called Instilling effectively required players to use Delirium, leading to constant fog. This requirement is being removed.
- Refining the Fog Effect: While Delirium will still feature fog, it’s been redesigned to be less intrusive and more visually appealing. It’s now “much more fine” and less overwhelming.
“Part of the reason why it’s an issue is as the game currently has Instilling, and the way that Instilling rewards you effectively meant that it was wholly mandatory to use,” Rogers stated. “There is no downside to having it so therefore every map should have it, and therefore every map is just gray fog.”
Current Availability and Future Release
Path of Exile 2 is currently in early access on:
* PC
* PlayStation 5
* Xbox Series S/X
The full 1.0 release, featuring all six Acts of the campaign, is anticipated to launch sometime later next year.
Ultimately,while a Switch 2 port isn’t on the immediate horizon,GGG is committed to improving the game for its existing player base and remains open to exploring new platforms in the future. The December 12th update demonstrates this commitment, addressing key performance issues and responding directly to community feedback.
