From Roadie to integral Member
Born in London in 1960, Bamonte’s journey with The Cure began in 1984. Initially, he served as a roadie and Robert Smith’s dedicated guitar technician. This hands-on experience provided him with an intimate understanding of the band’s inner workings.
Six years later, in 1990, Bamonte officially joined the Cure as a full-time member. This occurred following the departure of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell, opening the door for Bamonte to contribute his musical talents.
A Versatile Musician Across Landmark Albums
You’ll recognize Bamonte’s contributions on some of The Cure’s most celebrated albums. He first appeared on the chart-topping Wish in 1992, skillfully playing both keys and guitar.Notably, he also played six-string bass on the beloved track “Friday I’m in Love.”
Moreover, Bamonte’s musicality extended to other significant Cure releases, including Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers. Over his initial tenure, he participated in over 400 live performances with the band.
A return and final Performances
after departing The Cure in 2005, Bamonte rejoined the lineup in 2022. This reunion coincided with their ”Shows of a Lost World” tour, bringing renewed energy to the stage.
He delivered another 90 performances, with the band highlighting some of these shows as among the best in their history, culminating in a memorable concert in London on November 1st, 2024.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Recognition
In 2019, Perry Bamonte was rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his fellow Cure bandmates. This honor acknowledged his substantial contributions to music and the band’s enduring influence.

It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas. Quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative, ‘Teddy’ was a warm hearted and vital part of the Cure story. ‘Looking after the band’ from 1984 through 1989, he became a full time member of the Cure in 1990, playing guitar, six string bass and keyboard on the Wish, wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits and The Cure albums, as well as performing more than 400 shows over 14 years. He rejoined the Cure in 2022, playing another 90 shows, some of the best in the band’s history, culminating with the show of a Lost world concert in London 1st November 2024. Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed.
