Pixel Studio Gains New Life on Older Devices, Adds Exciting Animation features
Google is expanding the capabilities of it’s Pixel Studio app, bringing features previously reserved for the newest Pixel phones to the Pixel 8 series. This move follows a recent expansion of the journal app to older devices, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the experience for a wider range of pixel users.
Pixel Studio Support Expands
Initially slated for the Pixel 9, Pixel Studio is now confirmed to be “available on the Pixel 8 and later” according to a recent update to the official support documentation. Currently, the app isn’t available for download via the Google Play Store, but this is expected to change soon.
For Pixel 8 users, this update means access to a powerful new screenshot and general-purpose editor, effectively replacing the older Markup tool. This editor was first introduced with the Pixel 10 series and refined in version 2.0 of the app in August.
Animate Your Images: A New Creative tool
The most exciting addition is a new “Animate image” capability within pixel Studio. This feature allows you to breathe life into your still photos, transforming them into dynamic animations. Here’s how it works:
* Tap “Animate image” within the app.
* enter a descriptive prompt, or choose from suggested prompts.
* Once the animation is generated, you can personalize it further with stickers or captions.
You’ll then be able to share your creations as GIFs or WebP files. This innovative feature is likely powered by Google’s Veo image generation technology.
A Feature Briefly Seen,Then Delayed
Details about this animation feature surfaced earlier this month in a Pixel Drop leak. It appears the update was temporarily pulled, despite the support page being updated in anticipation.
What’s Next for Pixel Studio?
The rollout of these features is likely tied to the next Feature Drop, potentially coinciding with the release of Android 16 QPR2. While a recent November update already delivered significant improvements, the timing of this Pixel Studio expansion remains to be seen.
Google continues to refine and expand the capabilities of its Pixel-exclusive apps, offering users increasingly powerful and creative tools. This latest update to Pixel Studio is a testament to that commitment, bringing cutting-edge features to a broader audience and solidifying the Pixel’s position as a leader in mobile photography and creativity.
