From Skull injury to Kabaddi Star: The Inspiring Journey of Devank Dayal
Devank Dayal’s story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of sport. Just a few months ago, he became the most expensive Indian player in Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) history, securing a bid of ₹2.205 crore. This remarkable achievement comes just two years after overcoming a life-threatening skull injury, a journey that defines his character as much as his athletic prowess.
Overcoming Adversity & Finding Freedom
Dayal, hailing from Singhpura Khurd in Haryana’s Rohtak, remembers the emotional weight of that winning bid. He recalls a wave of relief washing over him, knowing his financial struggles were easing and he could fully dedicate himself to the sport he loves. The financial boost alleviated burdens on his family, allowing him to approach the game with a clear and focused mind.
now, as captain in the current PKL season, dayal embraces the added duty. He firmly believes that accepting greater challenges unlocks even greater potential. Kabaddi, at its core, is a team endeavor, and Dayal understands that collective unity is the key to victory.
A Lifelong Passion Ignited
Dayal’s connection to kabaddi began long before he stepped onto the professional arena. As a child, he woudl assist his father on the farm, filling any downtime with the thrill of watching kabaddi matches. He vividly remembers dreaming of one day joining the ranks of those skilled athletes.
His foundational training came from his guru ji,Jagbir ji,who instilled in him the fundamental techniques of the sport. Joining the Army proved pivotal, providing opportunities to train alongside established players like Manjeet Dahiya. Dayal looked up to Dahiya’s strength and raiding ability, viewing him as a mentor and, ultimately, a brother.
Looking Ahead: Dreams of Olympic Glory
Dayal’s ambitions extend beyond the current PKL season. He aspires to represent India on the international stage, competing in prestigious events like the Asian Games and the World Cup. Though, his ultimate dream is even grander: to see kabaddi included in the Olympic Games.
If kabaddi achieves Olympic status, Dayal is determined to be a part of that historic moment, showcasing his skills on the world’s biggest sporting platform. He embodies the spirit of dedication and perseverance, inspiring aspiring athletes and fans alike.
