Robert MacIntyre Claims alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Historic Win
Robert MacIntyre etched his name into scottish golfing history, securing victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He became the first Scot to win the prestigious title in two decades, finishing at 18 under par in challenging conditions.
macintyre’s triumph comes just a week after his pivotal role in Europe’s dramatic Ryder Cup win. The 29-year-old carded a final-round 66, demonstrating remarkable composure and skill.
the tournament was shortened to 54 holes due to severe weather. Storm Amy brought strong winds, forcing the cancellation of Saturday’s play and adding to the already demanding conditions at the iconic links courses.
This victory marks MacIntyre’s second Scottish Open win, following his success at The Renaissance Club last year. He now joins colin Montgomerie as the only Scots to have lifted the alfred Dunhill trophy as 2005.
Tyrrell Hatton, MacIntyre’s ryder Cup teammate, finished as runner-up. Hatton delivered a strong final round of seven-under, but ultimately fell four shots short of the champion.
Currently ranked ninth in the world,MacIntyre now boasts four European Tour victories. His performance at Bethpage Black, where he contributed 1.5 points to the European team, further solidified his position as a world-class golfer.
“It’s brilliant, but I don’t know how I’m going to celebrate,” MacIntyre admitted, acknowledging the recent Ryder Cup festivities. ”We’ll try our best to mark this special occasion.”
MacIntyre’s preparation for the tournament was unconventional, to say the least. He only arrived on Wednesday and managed just 12 holes of practice.
He also confessed to a less-then-ideal diet during the week. Takeaways, including fish and chips, became a staple, yet somehow, it all came together for a remarkable win.
MacIntyre started his final round strongly, with a birdie on the first hole. He reached the turn at four under par, establishing a commanding lead.
A precise approach shot on the 13th further cemented his control.Despite a late bogey on the 17th and a missed birdie prospect on the 18th, MacIntyre held on to secure the championship.
Richard Sterne of South Africa finished third at 13 under. England’s John parry also carded a 13-under total, sharing third place with Sterne.
This win solidifies MacIntyre’s status as a rising star in the world of golf. You can expect to see his name contending for major championships in the years to come.
