Ryan Coogler Confirms ‘Black Panther 3’ & Details His Creative Drive
Ryan Coogler is returning to Wakanda. The acclaimed director recently confirmed he’s developing a third Black Panther film, addressing questions about why he’s revisiting the franchise after the monumental success of its predecessors. His insights reveal a deeply personal connection to the story and characters, fueled by a desire to explore untapped potential.
coogler emphasized he isn’t motivated by proving anything to anyone. Rather, he’s driven by a compelling need to tell stories that resonate with him. “I’m telling stories that I want to tell,that I’m obsessed with,that I feel like the burning desire to do,” he explained. this passion project is firmly rooted in his artistic vision.
A Deeper Connection to Chadwick Boseman & the Characters
The director’s commitment stems from a growing understanding of the late Chadwick Boseman, who powerfully portrayed T’Challa. Coogler felt he was only beginning to unlock Boseman’s capabilities during the frist Black Panther film.
“I felt like I had gotten to know Chadwick as a performer,” he shared. He draws a parallel to his collaborative process with Michael B. Jordan, noting he thrives on challenging actors he knows well. “I know what he’s capable of. And I know where he can be pushed and what he can handle, so I throw a lot at Mike.”
Addressing skepticism & Defining His Purpose
Coogler acknowledges the natural skepticism surrounding a third installment. he understands why some might question the need for another Black Panther film. Though, he views it as his responsibility to demonstrate the artistic merit of the project.
“It’s my job as a filmmaker to show why,” he stated. He’s motivated by a personal connection to the material, a feeling he describes as having the movie “on my heart.”

Currently, Coogler is focused on an X-Files revival for television. He intends to capture the essence of the original series, blending ”Monsters of the Week” episodes with a larger, overarching conspiracy.
Black Panther 3 will follow the X-Files project.While details remain scarce, Denzel Washington is confirmed to have an unannounced role. The film is still in early development, suggesting a release is some time away.
