Residents of Bratislava have recently voiced concerns about excessive salt application on city sidewalks. Many are discovering what appears to be fresh snow in the mornings, only to quickly realize it’s actually road salt clinging to their shoes and irritating their pets’ paws.
temperatures dipped to -8.1 degrees Celsius overnight between Thursday and Friday, with snowfall resuming in the morning. These frigid conditions necessitate increased attention to roadways and walkways,requiring not only snow removal but also preventative measures against slipping hazards. Technical salt remains the most cost-effective solution for achieving this.
Though, its widespread use is now drawing increasing criticism. Locals are sharing reports on social media platforms of sidewalks being oversaturated with salt in numerous locations.
“Please, stop salting already, people are destroying the soles of their shoes and dogs are damaging their paw pads,” one Bratislava resident, Anna, posted on social media. Others quickly echoed her sentiment.
“On Monday, half a centimeter of snow fell, resulting in two centimeters of salt being spread. In Petržalka, we have literal salt drifts in some areas,” noted Janka.
Tatiana shared her experience: “my son took the dog for a long walk last night. He didn’t realize how much salt was everywhere. The dog is limping, with a sore paw. I have ointment and am diligently applying it, but I couldn’t prevent this. I’m stepping off the sidewalk to avoid the white, sharp surfaces, and sometimes they
