Steven Drozd Breaks Silence on flaming Lips Exit
Steven Drozd,former keyboardist and drummer of The Flaming Lips, has given his first interview addressing his departure from the band. He told FOX23 News Tulsa’s Nathan Thompson that his decision to leave stemmed from a desire to retire from touring and focus on his family.”Wayne [Coyne] and I disagreed on what I should do moving forward,” Drozd stated, adding that he had hoped to continue contributing to the band in a studio capacity. “So we just kind of agreed that I would step back, and then step back turned into not coming back.”
Initial Disagreement and Conflicting Accounts
The circumstances surrounding Drozd’s exit, initially announced in December via a now-deleted Threads post, were initially disputed. Wayne Coyne claimed Drozd’s assertion that the band was “done with” him was untrue, describing the situation as “sad, and infuriating” and placing the responsibility for clarifying the situation on Drozd.
