Tame Impala Launches ‘Deadbeat‘ Tour with Electrifying new York Show
Tame Impala kicked off its highly anticipated world tour in New York City, delivering a mesmerizing performance that showcased both classic hits and fresh material from the newly released album,Deadbeat.Despite a mild illness,Kevin Parker’s vocals remained remarkably strong throughout the expansive,24-song set. The show proved a dynamic blend of established favorites and exciting new directions for the band.
A Setlist Balancing Nostalgia and innovation
The initial portion of the concert seamlessly wove together beloved tracks like “Breathe Deeper,” “Elephant,” and “Gossip” with the more electronic and dance-infused sounds of Deadbeat.Songs like “Dracula,” “Afterthought,” and “My Old Ways” captivated the audience, with the latter benefiting from a particularly immersive, psychedelic breakdown.
Parker addressed the crowd, acknowledging the excitement of a tour launch. He playfully admitted that anything could happen – for better or worse – adding to the electric atmosphere.
An Unexpected Interlude & Intimate Performance
Following “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” the band launched into an instrumental version of “No Reply” as Parker unexpectedly left the stage.Cameras followed him through a tunnel and, briefly, into a bathroom – a moment cleverly handled by focusing on his shoes.
He then reappeared on a smaller platform at the back of the venue, surrounded by lamps and synthesizers. Parker delivered intimate performances of the new tracks “Ethereal Connection” and “Not My World,” even performing parts of the songs while lying on his back. This created a uniquely personal connection with the audience.
A Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival & Grand Finale
The energy surged back to full rock ‘n’ roll intensity with the help of dazzling confetti cannons and cutting-edge laser displays. “Let it Happen” and “Alter Ego,” a standout from the 2010 debut Innerspeaker, ignited the crowd.
the encore began with a historic moment: the first-ever live performance of parker’s Grammy-winning collaboration with Justice, “Neverender.” The show culminated with the infectious hit “The Less I Know the Better” and the sprawling, seven-minute Deadbeat closer, “End of Summer.”
Deadbeat & What’s Next for Tame Impala
Deadbeat, the follow-up to 2020’s the Slow Rush, recently debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. You can expect a continued exploration of this new sonic landscape as the tour progresses.
Following fall shows concluding November 17 in Los Angeles, Tame Impala will embark on a spring tour of Europe and the U.K., starting April 4 in Porto, Portugal. Additionally,Parker will showcase his DJ skills as a support act for Justice in Australia this December.
