NEW YORK CITY – October 26, 2024 – Theater Communications Group (TCG), the leading national association for the American theatre, has announced the return of its highly anticipated Fall Forum on Governance to New York City, November 7-9, 2025. This year’s forum, themed “Leadership for the Long Arc,” will bring together hundreds of theatre leaders, board members, and trustees to address the critical governance challenges and opportunities facing the field in an era of unprecedented change. Registration is currently open exclusively to TCG members.
The American theatre is at a pivotal moment. Facing financial pressures, navigating evolving societal expectations around equity, diversity, and inclusion, and striving to demonstrate impactful community engagement, theatres require strong, adaptable leadership. The 2025 fall Forum is designed to provide a vital space for connection, strategic thinking, and the development of practical solutions.
“Governance is no longer simply about oversight; it’s about actively stewarding the growth, sustainability, and future vision of our theatres,” explains LaTeshia Ellerson, Co-Executive Director of National Engagement at TCG. “The Fall Forum is a unique opportunity for trustees and theatre leaders to collaborate, learn from diverse perspectives, and generate bold ideas that will propel the theatre ecology forward. It’s a place to collectively dream and translate those dreams into actionable strategies aligned wiht our shared values.”
A Return to Roots & a Focus on the Future
After a period of virtual and hybrid events, the 2025 Forum marks a return to the conventional in-person format in New York City - a location that hosted the event annually from 1998 to 2019. This decision reflects strong demand from TCG’s member theatres for a dedicated, immersive experience.
The program is built around equipping theatre leaders with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate a complex landscape. Key highlights include:
Economic Outlook Plenary: A deep dive into the rapidly evolving economic realities impacting theatres nationwide, offering insights into financial sustainability and innovative revenue models.
Governance Best Practices Breakout sessions: Focused workshops exploring effective governance structures, board development, and ethical leadership.
strategic Scenario Planning: An interactive plenary session followed by targeted breakouts, empowering trustee/leader teams to proactively address potential future challenges and opportunities.
Town Hall Forum: A facilitated, open discussion addressing critical issues and fostering collaborative problem-solving within the theatre community.
* Affinity Gatherings: dedicated networking opportunities for board chairs, new trustees, and trustees of color, fostering peer support and shared learning.
