Santana and Kazarian‘s Brutal Texas Death match
On January 13, 2024, Santana and Christopher Daniels (known as Kazarian) engaged in a grueling Texas Death Match at a Pro Wrestling Revolution event in Pomona, California. The match,known for its no-disqualification and multiple fall format,lasted over 19 minutes and was characterized by intense violence and dramatic near-falls. Santana ultimately emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle.
Early Chaos and First Fall
The match quickly descended into chaos, with both competitors utilizing weapons. Early on, Kazarian attempted to use the ring steps against Santana, but Santana countered.He than executed a flying lariat from the ring stairs and brought a table into play. After leveling Kazarian with a boot,Santana used a chair as a springboard for a cannonball,sending both men crashing thru the ring barricade and into the spectator area.
The brawl continued amongst the fans, with kazarian briefly gaining the upper hand by driving Santana headfirst into a trash can. The action returned to the arena floor, where Santana climbed into the first row of seats, only for kazarian to follow and threaten a superplex. Santana escaped and connected with a crossbody.
The fight spilled outside the arena near a garage door, where Kazarian whipped Santana into it. He then found a trash can and used it against santana. Returning to the ring, Kazarian suplexed Santana on the floor and set up chairs for a potential attack. Despite Santana grabbing a chair of his own, Kazarian managed to dominate, attempting a Fade to Black through the chairs. Santana reversed the move and delivered a piledriver through the chairs, securing the first pinfall at 9:35.
Resilience and Second Fall
Demonstrating astonishing resilience, Kazarian kicked out at nine, forcing the match to continue. He was visibly bleeding from the forehead. Santana brought a second table into the equation, setting it up on the floor. He attempted a piledriver on Kazarian, who fought back, only to run into a boot. Santana then dove through the table in a cutter, allowing Kazarian to score his first pinfall at 12:06. The sequence was criticized for Santana seemingly diving directly into the cutter without a clear offensive maneuver.
Escalation and Final Fall
Santana again rose to his feet,only to be met with a running knee from Kazarian that sent him into the ring stairs. Kazarian then set up a table that santana had previously slid into the ring and retrieved a ladder. While taunting the crowd, Kazarian was ambushed by Santana with a barbed wire baseball bat. Santana charged, but Kazarian ducked and attempted a chicken wing submission. Santana escaped, grabbed the championship belt, and raked it across Kazarian’s face.
Santana followed up with a sit-out Death Valley Driver and then positioned Kazarian on the table before climbing the ladder. He executed a frog splash from the top of the ladder, but Kazarian shockingly kicked out at two, despite the referee’s hand hitting the mat three times. The crowd erupted in protest, chanting “ref you suck!” and questioning the count. santana argued with the referee, but the match continued.
both competitors exchanged clotheslines, neither falling. Kazarian then spat in Santana’s face, a mistake that ignited Santana’s fury. Santana wrapped barbed wire around his arm and delivered a rolling lariat, finally winning the third fall at 18:32.
Kazarian briefly attempted to rise at nine, but ultimately failed to regain his feet.
Match Result and Post-Match Chaos
Match Result: Santana won the Texas Death Match when Kazarian couldn’t make it up before the 10 count (19:14).
Carlos Silva presented Santana with the championship belt, while referee Nemeth raised Santana’s hand in victory. However, Nemeth then unexpectedly hit Santana with the Danger Zone maneuver and signaled his intention to cash in his trophy. Before Nemeth could officially execute the cash-in, Santana retaliated with a rolling lariat, leaving the future of the title and Nemeth’s challenge uncertain.
