Considering a clean Windows 11 installation? You’re not alone. Many users are hesitant to upgrade due to the pre-installed applications, often referred to as bloatware, that come with the operating system. Fortunately, there’s a straightforward method to install Windows 11 without unwanted software.
Here’s what you need to know to get a streamlined experience. The key lies in utilizing the Media Creation tool, but with a slight modification to the process.
First, download the Windows 11 Media Creation tool from Microsoft’s official website. Run the tool and select “Create installation media for another PC.” Choose your preferred settings, such as language and edition.
Next, instead of immediately creating a bootable USB drive or downloading an ISO file, look for the option to pause or cancel the process. This is where the trick comes in. While the tool is downloading files, it creates a temporary folder containing the Windows 11 installation files.
Now, navigate to the temporary folder, typically located in C:Users[Your Username]AppDataLocalTemp. Locate a folder with a name similar to “Win11_MediaCreationTool” or a similar variation.
Within this folder, you’ll find the sources directory. This is where the installation files reside. Delete the sourcesApps folder. This folder contains the pre-installed apps that many users consider bloatware. After deleting the Apps folder, return to the Media Creation Tool and resume the process. Now, create your bootable USB drive or download the ISO file. When you install Windows 11 using this modified media, you’ll find a significantly cleaner operating system. You’ll have a fresh start without the clutter of pre-installed applications.
Interestingly, you won’t find microsoft Edge included in this version of Windows.therefore, you won’t need to worry about removing it if you prefer a different browser. However, you’ll still need a browser to access the internet.
Fortunately, you can easily download browsers like Opera, Firefox, or Brave directly from the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store offers a variety of options to suit your needs.
With Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 ending, upgrading to Windows 11 is becoming increasingly necessary. If the amount of pre-installed software was holding you back, this method provides a solution for a clean and customized installation. I’ve found that this approach saves a significant amount of time and effort compared to manually uninstalling apps after installation.
