Group ISIS attacked 3 military posts in the Syrian desert. A total of 15 pro-Syrian government fighters were reported killed in this attack.

Reported by AFP, Friday (3/5/2024), this is the latest attack carried out by the remnants of the group ISIS. This attack was revealed by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights

“(They) attacked three military sites belonging to regime forces and fighters loyal to them in the eastern countryside of Homs, triggering armed clashes and killing 15,” the Syrian Observatory said.

ISIS took control of most of Syria and Iraq in 2014. They proclaimed a so-called caliphate and launched terror.

The group was territorially defeated in Syria in 2019, but its remnants continue to carry out deadly attacks, especially against pro-government forces and Kurdish-led fighters in the vast desert. ISIS remnants are also active in neighboring Iraq.

The Observatory reported that last month, ISIS group fighters killed 28 Syrian soldiers and pro-government forces affiliated with them in two attacks on government-controlled areas in Syria.

The Observatory added that many of them were members of the Quds Brigade, a group made up of Palestinian fighters that has received support from Damascus’ ally Moscow in recent years.

In one of the attacks, jihadists opened fire on a military bus in eastern Homs province, the Observatory said at the time.

Separately, six Syrian soldiers were killed in an ISIS attack on a base in eastern Syria.

Syria’s war has claimed the lives of more than half a million people and displaced millions more since it erupted in March 2011 with Damascus’ brutal repression of anti-government protests. They then attracted foreign powers, militias and jihadists.
