The Evolving Soundscape: A Producer’s Look at 2025 & beyond
As a music producer, staying ahead of the curve isn’t just a goal – it’s essential. 2025 has been a year of interesting shifts, and looking ahead to 2026, the possibilities are even more exciting. Hear’s a breakdown of how genres are evolving, the impact of new technologies, and what you can expect to hear dominating the airwaves.
Genre Evolution: Regional Sounds Take Center Stage
We’ve seen incredible growth and evolution across several key genres this year. It’s a testament to the power of artists putting their unique spin on established sounds.
* afro Fusion: This genre continues to explode in popularity as artists blend Afrobeat with diverse influences. It’s reaching a wider audience than ever before.
* ATL Trap: Metro Boomin‘s influence is undeniable. He’s successfully steered ATL trap back to its regional roots, concurrently launching new talent like YKNiece, whose track “take me through there” is a prime example.
* West Coast Bounce: Kendrick Lamar‘s return has been pivotal. He’s not only revitalized the sound but also inspired a new wave of artists and producers.
These regional sounds are proving that authenticity and innovation can coexist, creating a vibrant and dynamic musical landscape.
The AI Revolution: Transforming the Production Workflow
Artificial intelligence and new plugins have fundamentally changed how we work in the studio. I recently leveraged AI in a particularly exciting way.
Rather of waiting for an artist to record, I used an AI plugin to simulate their voice on a track I was creating for them. This allowed me to instantly hear how the song would sound with their unique vocal style, accelerating the creative process.
AI isn’t about replacing artists; it’s about empowering producers with new tools to explore possibilities and refine their vision.
Taking Creative Risks: Investing in the Next generation
This year, I deliberately shifted my focus away from established artists. I chose to invest my time and energy in developing and breaking new talent.
This meant working closely with artists like Honey Bxby, Zeddy Will, and Wesley Franklin. It’s a risk, but the reward of nurturing emerging artists and helping them build their careers is incredibly fulfilling.
The TikTok Effect: A direct Line to the Audience
Short-form video platforms like TikTok and Reels have become indispensable tools for producers. They offer an unprecedented ability to gauge what resonates with audiences, particularly younger listeners.
It’s more than just identifying trends. TikTok frequently enough highlights genuinely great music that people love, not just fleeting viral sounds. It’s a direct indicator of what’s capturing the attention of the next generation of music fans.
Looking ahead: Predictions for 2026
So, what sounds will dominate in 2026? Here’s my forecast:
* R&B Revival: Expect a strong resurgence of R&B music, blending classic sensibilities with modern production techniques.
* Hip-Hop’s Reset: Hip-hop is currently in a reset phase, paving the way for a return to form. I anticipate seeing continued dominance from Drake, Future, and 21 Savage, alongside rising stars like JID and BIG Xtheplug.
* K-Pop’s Global Expansion: K-pop is poised for even greater global success. We’ll likely see a rise in boy and girl bands, further solidifying the genre’s international appeal.
Building a Legacy: WorldwideFresh & money Well Spent Records
My focus heading into 2026 is clear: creative dominance and building a lasting legacy. WorldwideFresh is aiming to become a top-five producer in the industry, with a strong presence on radio and streaming platforms.
Simultaneously, alongside my partner Verse Simmonds, we’re building Money Well Spent Records into a label synonymous with quality, culture, and longevity. Our goal is to create a brand that artists, fans, and the industry recognize as a true household name.
The future of music is radiant, and I’m excited to be a part of shaping it.
