The world’s first theme park inspired by the popular Japanese manga series ‘Dragon Ball’ will be built in Saudi Arabia. That was announced on Friday.

The 500,000 square meter park, with seven different zones, will be located in the future city of Qiddiya, near the Saudi capital Riyadh. There are about thirty attractions, hotels and restaurants. It has not yet been announced when the park would open its doors and how much it will cost.

Qiddiya is one of the large-scale projects of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program, to boost tourism in the country and thus become less dependent on revenues from the oil industry.

At the beginning of March, Akira Toriyama, the writer and artist of Dragon Ball, died of a brain hemorrhage. The Japanese was 68 years old.

Dragon Ball follows the combat training of main character Son Goku and his search for the seven dragon balls to summon a wish-granting dragon. The story first appeared in 1984. It grew into one of the most successful media brands worldwide. The manga sold more than 260 million copies and spawned numerous television series, video games and feature films.
