Lucy Dacus Unveils Lost Tracks & A Striking New Album Cover
Singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus, celebrated for her poignant lyricism and recent foray into officiating same-sex marriages, has gifted fans with two previously unreleased songs. “Bus Back to Richmond” and “More Than Friends” arrive as a special dual single release,offering a glimpse into the creative process behind her acclaimed 2023 album,Forever Is a Feeling.Initially conceived as part of Forever Is a Feeling, Dacus explains the songs ultimately didn’t quite fit the album’s final narrative. She shared this insight via Instagram,playfully acknowledging that dedicated fans may have already encountered the tracks during live performances. Dacus thanked fans for respecting her request to refrain from recording those early iterations.Interestingly, Dacus initially challenged herself to explore themes of love and loss without explicitly using the word “love.” She successfully navigated this constraint for most of the album, only deviating a few times throughout the tracklist. These new singles perfectly embody that original artistic intention.Beyond the music, Dacus has also revealed a revised album cover for Forever Is a Feeling. The new artwork features a photograph of Will St. john’s original painting, captured in medium format by Jon Henry.
Dacus envisioned this photographic approach from the beginning, but timing constraints prevented its initial realization. Now, she’s embracing the freedom to implement her original vision, stating simply, ”want to and I can!” While the update is live on her website, streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music are still displaying the original cover as of today.
Currently, Dacus is captivating audiences on the second leg of her North American tour. You can catch her live at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theater on august 12th and 13th. She recently delivered a standout performance at montreal’s Osheaga festival, further solidifying her reputation as a compelling live act.
