The Certain Shift: How Telehealth Has Redefined Medical Education and Wellness – And Why It’s Here to Stay
For over a decade, I’ve been immersed in the world of e-teaching within pediatric cardiology, launching a free program for postgraduates back in 2010. Initially, the idea faced significant resistance. Concerns about clarity, the effectiveness of digital learning, and the irreplaceable value of face-to-face interaction were common. But we persevered.
Today, in partnership with the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India (https://pedicardioclasses.net/), our program stands as the longest-running free tele-teaching initiative in the field – a testament to its success, having delivered over 750 e-classes. Children’s Heart Link (https://childrensheartlink.org/) were instrumental in our early days, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.
The Pandemic’s Acceleration of a Necessary Evolution
Fast forward to the post-COVID era, and the landscape has dramatically shifted. Doctors are now actively participating in and delivering online lectures. What was once considered a niche approach is now mainstream. I firmly believe medical education will never revert to its pre-pandemic norms.
Think about it: the reliance on large lecture halls and expensive conferences will diminish. Instead, online digital medical teaching, across all specialties, will dominate this decade. This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about accessibility, scalability, and ultimately, better education.Beyond the Classroom: Telehealth’s Expanding Reach
The impact extends far beyond formal education. we’ve been utilizing telehealth for personal wellness for years. A trainer in Manipur, recommended by Dr. Chhavi, provided live gym classes to our team, regardless of our location. All we needed was WiFi and WhatsApp video – a truly portable personal trainer!
The lockdowns brought this convenience to the forefront. Suddenly, everyone discovered the joy of bypassing traffic to attend fitness and yoga sessions online. Even established yoga gurus embraced digital platforms to reach their vast followings with meditation and wellness programs.
Recognizing the need for holistic support, we proactively offered free online physiotherapy, fitness classes, and mental & nutritional counseling to our staff and their families during the pandemic. Our hope is that this continues as a enduring way to prioritize health and well-being, accessible from anywhere – home, hotel rooms, or beyond.
A New healthcare Ecosystem: Tele, Tele Everywhere
As the ubiquitous WhatsApp forwards predict, the world has fundamentally changed. And this transformation applies directly to doctors, patients, fitness providers, and the entire healthcare ecosystem. The future is undeniably tele - telehealth, tele-education, tele-wellness.
A tiny virus has triggered a monumental shift in medicine, forcing us to embrace innovation and prioritize accessibility. This isn’t a temporary fix; it’s a permanent evolution.
