New Resident Artists Selected for National theatre Residency Program
A cohort of innovative theatre artists has been chosen for a prestigious national residency program, fostering the development of groundbreaking new works. These residencies, offered by leading regional theatres, provide vital support for artists pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance. A Diverse Range of Voices and Visions
This year’s selected artists represent a remarkable spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, and artistic disciplines. Their projects promise to challenge, provoke, and inspire audiences nationwide.
* Exploring Identity and Family: One residency will support the creation of a musical exploring complex family dynamics. It centers on a Yom Kippur dinner dramatically altered when a daughter comes out as transgender.
* celebrating Pioneering Lives: Another artist will delve into the life of Lucy Hicks Anderson, a remarkable American socialite, chef, and philanthropist. The resulting play will be a tribute to her extraordinary story and a meditation on love and acceptance.
* Queer History and artistic Experimentation: A trans-experimental collective will develop a performance piece inspired by the ballet Les Biches. This work will explore the lives and art of Claude Cahun and Romaine Brooks, gender-nonconforming artists navigating a Europe on the brink of fascism.
Meet the Resident Artists
lady Dane Edidi Figueroa is a multifaceted artist from Washington,D.C., recognized for her work as a playwright, choreographer, and filmmaker. She will be in residence at Long Wharf Theatre, developing A Continent of Forget.
Mirage Auto Depot, led by Raychel Ceciro and Logan Gabrielle Schulman, is a collective dedicated to queer creative community and experimental performance. They will be at Rattlestick Theatre, working on LES BI(T)CHES.
The musical project will be developed in residence at Round House Theatre.
