Notably, Mothernet is the first film to receive funding from Singapore’s Infocomm Media Advancement Authority’s (IMDA) new Virtual Production Innovation Fund. This support underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering innovation in filmmaking.

Director Shanty and writer Noyer initially began developing Mothernet before the widespread adoption of technologies like ChatGPT. However, they quickly realized the story needed to reflect the present, not a distant future.
“We initially planned to set the film in 2035,” Shanty explains, “but the rise of AI demanded a near-future setting.” She believes portraying this reality now amplifies the story’s impact, making it more relatable and thought-provoking for audiences.
