Beyond the Ring: Bevel Aims to Democratize Proactive Health with Clever Data Integration
The wellness tech space is saturated with devices and apps promising to unlock better health. But often, these solutions come with a hefty price tag or focus on isolated metrics. A new player, Bevel, is taking a different approach - leveraging the data you already collect to provide personalized, actionable insights, and doing so at a remarkably accessible price point.
Launched in late 2023, Bevel isn’t building another wearable. Instead, it’s building intelligence around the data generated by the wearables and health tools people are already using. I’ve spent years observing the evolution of this market, and Bevel’s strategy feels like a crucial step forward – a move away from simply tracking data to truly understanding it.
Accessibility is Key: A $6/Month Solution
The founders recognized a meaningful barrier to entry in the proactive health space: cost. ”A $500 ring or band is out of reach for a lot of people,” explains Bevel co-founder, Prashant Agarwal, a veteran of Dropbox and Facebook. “We already generate so much valuable health data from our primary wearables and other everyday sources. We wanted to make something that was more accessible across a much larger set of people.”
And accessible it is.Bevel operates on a subscription model of just $6 monthly or $50 annually – a fraction of the cost of many competing solutions. This commitment to affordability is a core differentiator, opening up personalized health insights to a wider audience.
Holistic Health,Seamlessly Integrated
What truly sets Bevel apart is its holistic approach. Unlike apps that silo data – focusing solely on steps, sleep, or nutrition – Bevel combines these elements into a unified experience. This isn’t just about seeing numbers; it’s about understanding how they relate to each other.
Currently, Bevel integrates with Apple watch via Apple Health, and directly syncs with continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) like Dexcom and Libre. This is a powerful combination, allowing users to see the impact of diet and activity on their glucose levels in real-time. The company is actively expanding compatibility, with Garmin integration and other connections already in development. This commitment to broad integration is vital; the more data sources Bevel can tap into, the more extensive and accurate its insights will be.
Bevel Intelligence: The Engine Behind the Insights
The real magic happens within Bevel Intelligence, the company’s proprietary software. This isn’t just a data aggregator; it’s an analytical engine that learns how your body responds to various stimuli. It analyzes key details to adapt recommendations based on individual responses to stress, movement, and nutrition.
think of it as a personalized health coach, constantly learning and refining its advice based on your unique physiology. This level of personalization is where Bevel moves beyond simple tracking and into the realm of truly proactive health management.
From Personal Pain Point to Company Vision
The genesis of Bevel is a compelling story rooted in personal experience. Co-founder gray Nguyen, previously at Sam Altman-backed Campus, struggled with chronic back pain that went undiagnosed despite diligent use of wearables and regular doctor visits.
“Nothing pointed out what was actually causing my back pain, not even my doctors, which is crazy, right?” Nguyen recounts. “That’s when this idea came up. everyone’s life is so nuanced. There are so many small things you do that stack on each other and, over time, create a chronic condition.”
Nguyen’s journey led him to meticulously track his sleep, nutrition, and activity, uncovering a complex interplay of factors contributing to his pain - low mobility, poor sleep environment, and inflammatory dietary choices. This personal revelation, combined with co-founder Ben Yang’s machine learning expertise (previously at Opendoor), formed the foundation of Bevel.
The team was later joined by Prashant Agarwal, who had experienced his own health challenges and found success through manual data logging. “We shared the same North Star, which is helping people become more intelligent about their own health,” Agarwal explains.
Backed by Industry Leaders
Bevel’s vision has resonated with prominent investors. Earlier this year, the company secured $4 million in funding led by General Catalyst and South Park commons.
“Bevel’s mission to democratize health through intelligence and design deeply resonates with us,” says neeraj Arora, Managing Director at General Catalyst. “The level of engagement they’
