The convention, a vibrant showcase of Ugandan unity and patriotism, drew participants from across the United arab Emirates, demonstrating a powerful collective desire to contribute to a prosperous future for their homeland.
Organized under the dedicated leadership of Vice National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Michael Nuwagira – widely known as “Uncle Toyota” – the event served as a crucial platform for strengthening ties within the Ugandan diaspora and fostering a renewed sense of national purpose. While president yoweri Kaguta Museveni was unable to attend due to pressing national duties, his commitment to the diaspora community was powerfully represented by a high-level government delegation.
The convention officially opened with remarks from the Honourable Minister for Presidency, Rt. Hon.Milly Babalanda, who delivered a compelling message of cooperation and forward-thinking engagement on behalf of the President. Under Mr. Rutasharara Steven’s guidance,the PLU Diaspora team articulated six key objectives that will shape their future work: promoting patriotism,fostering national unity,building robust job networks,driving community development initiatives,strengthening peace and security,and enhancing Uganda’s international reputation. These pillars formed the foundation of productive discussions on how Ugandans abroad can maximize their contributions to national progress.
Attendees consistently praised the 2025 Convention as a resounding success, attributing this to the exceptional leadership of uncle Toyota and the dedicated PLU UAE team.
