Netflix Scam: Director Carl Rinsch Guilty of $11M Fraud & Luxury Spending

Director Squandered millions Meant for Netflix series on Lavish Lifestyle

A film‍ director known for⁤ his work on “47 Ronin” has ⁤been convicted of multiple federal charges, including wire fraud and money ‍laundering, after misusing funds provided by ‍Netflix for an unfinished television project. Carl erik⁣ Rinsch ‍diverted over⁤ $11 million intended for the sci-fi series “White horse” into personal investments and a remarkably extravagant lifestyle. ⁤

prosecutors detailed how Rinsch initially received approximately $44 million from Netflix to complete the ⁢show. ‍subsequently, he requested ⁣and received an additional $11 million, claiming it was necessary to finalize production. However, the funds ⁢were never used for their intended purpose.

Instead‍ of completing “White Horse,” Rinsch channeled the money into a ⁣personal account. He then embarked on a series of speculative investments,⁤ quickly losing roughly half of the $11 million within a couple‍ of months. A portion of the remaining funds ⁤was then ⁢placed into the cryptocurrency ⁤market, generating some profit, which was ultimately deposited into his personal bank account.

The subsequent spending spree was extensive. Rinsch purchased five Rolls-Royce vehicles and a Ferrari. He also indulged in $652,000 worth of watches and ‍clothing.

Further demonstrating a pattern of lavish spending, Rinsch acquired two mattresses totaling $638,000⁤ and spent an additional⁣ $295,000 on luxury⁢ bedding and linens. He also used a significant amount – approximately $1.8 million – to pay off outstanding credit card⁤ debt.

Ultimately, the series remained unfinished. Rinsch’s sentencing is scheduled for April.

Federal prosecutors emphasized the seriousness of the offense. U.S. Attorney Jay ⁤Clayton stated that ⁣Rinsch “took $11 million meant for a TV show and gambled it on speculative stock options and crypto transactions.”

This ⁣conviction serves as⁤ a clear ⁣message. Clayton added,”Today’s⁣ conviction shows⁤ that when someone steals from investors,we will follow the money and hold them accountable.”

This case⁣ highlights⁢ the potential consequences of financial mismanagement and the importance of openness when handling ample investments. You can ‍see⁢ how quickly funds can be depleted when directed towards personal gain rather than their intended purpose. ⁢It’s ⁢a cautionary⁢ tale⁤ for⁤ anyone entrusted with ⁣significant financial resources.
