Undeniably,a seamless and problematic interface has developed between the White House and the Department of Justice. Evidence suggests the DOJ is willing to carry out any directive from the president, regardless of its legal or ethical implications.
This is a dangerous precedent. Every American should be worried about a scenario where the president can unilaterally order the prosecution of individuals without any independant oversight or buffer.
Disregarding the Courts: A Pattern of Disobedience
furthermore, the governance has repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for court orders, a practice that fundamentally undermines the rule of law. Typically, disagreements with lower court rulings are addressed through appeals, but this administration seems intent on simply ignoring judicial directives.
When serving as a judge, I understood the power vested in the position came with a responsibility to be used carefully. However, once an order was issued, I expected it to be followed.
