Kendrick Lamar & SZA Surprise Fans at Top Dawg Entertainment’s Annual Christmas Concert
Kendrick Lamar and SZA delivered an unforgettable holiday treat to fans in South Los Angeles, appearing as surprise guests at Top Dawg Entertainment’s (TDE) 12th annual Christmas concert and toy drive. The event, held December 18th in Nickerson Gardens, seamlessly blended top-tier musical performances with a strong commitment to community support.
This yearly tradition isn’t just about the music; it’s about giving back. TDE’s concert combines entertainment from its celebrated artists with philanthropic efforts, including gift and food giveaways for local families. This year, attendees were asked to donate an unwrapped toy for entry, ensuring a festive season for children in need.
A Night of Hit Performances
The dynamic duo captivated the audience with a selection of their biggest hits. Fans were thrilled to hear live renditions of SZA’s “30 For 30” from her SOS Deluxe: LANA album and Kendrick Lamar’s “squabble up” from GNX.
Of course, the performance wouldn’t have been complete without “luther.” This record-breaking track played a meaningful role in Lamar being named Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Artist of the Year for 2025.
A Star-Studded Lineup
Beyond Lamar and SZA, the concert boasted an extraordinary roster of TDE talent. Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre, Ab-Soul, Doechii, Isaiah Rashad, Jay Rock, Ray Vaughn, Schoolboy Q, and SiR all took the stage. The event spanned two days, with Friday, December 19th, dedicated to family activities and gift distribution within the Nickerson Gardens housing projects.
Lamar’s Continued Connection to TDE
Even though Kendrick Lamar released his final album under the TDE Records label, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, in 2022, his ties to the brand remain strong. He now releases music through his own venture, pgLang (co-founded with former TDE co-president Dave Free), and Interscope Records. However, he continues to collaborate with and support his TDE family.
Homecoming for a Hip-Hop Icon
Lamar’s appearance came shortly after wrapping his “Grand National Tour” in Australia. While SZA didn’t join him on that leg of the tour,Schoolboy Q and doechii stepped in.
Ultimately, seeing a Compton native and global hip-hop superstar return to perform for his community, and do so free of charge, is truly commendable. it underscores the importance of giving back and using one’s platform to uplift others, especially during the holiday season.
