Punjab CM Summoned by Akal Takht Over Alleged Disrespect of Sikh Tenets

Mann affirmed his unwavering respect for the Takht’s authority, declaring, “Any command from Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji is accepted with full reverence and will be obeyed.” He even stated his intention to appear barefoot before the Akal Takht. He prioritized the summons despite a scheduled visit from the President to Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar on the same day.
The ’Patit‘ Designation and Summons Location
A key aspect of this case revolves around the Jathedar’s decision to summon Mann to the Akal Takht secretariat, rather than directly to the facade (Fasil) of the Akal Takht itself.This is because Mann has been designated a “patit” – a term referring to a Sikh who has deviated from traditional practices.
According to Sikh tradition, a patit cannot be summoned to appear at the Fasil. Therefore,the Jathedar opted for the secretariat as the appropriate venue for Mann to present his explanation at 10:00 AM on January 15th.
