Lisa McGee’s ’How To Get to Heaven From Belfast’ Set to Premiere on Netflix
Following the acclaimed success of Derry Girls, creator Lisa McGee returns with a new darkly comedic mystery, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast.The series is slated to debut on Netflix February 12th.
The show centers around three lifelong friends - Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara – whose lives are upended by shocking news concerning a childhood acquaintance. Starring Roísín Gallagher (The Lovers) as saoirse, Sinéad Keenan (Unforgotten) as Robyn, and Caoilfhionn Dunne (A Thousand Blows) as Dara, the narrative unfolds as the women embark on a thrilling and unpredictable investigation into the past.
A first look trailer released on January 15th offers a glimpse into the series’ unique blend of mystery and humor. The cast also includes notable actors such as Tom Basden (After Life), Art Campion (Derry Girls), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones), Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction), and natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders), with a cameo appearance by Saoirse-Monica Jackson of Derry Girls.
mcgee describes the eight-episode series as “the show I’ve always wanted to make; a mash‑up of my two favorite genres: mystery and comedy.” The synopsis reveals a story about friendship, memory, and navigating life’s unexpected turns, triggered by the death of a former classmate and a series of unsettling events at the wake.
How To Get To Heaven From Belfast is directed by Michael Lennox and promises a “wild, weird adventure” filled with twists, turns, and a healthy dose of Irish wit. mcgee previously announced the project in August 2023, building anticipation for fans eager to see her next creation following the award-winning derry Girls, which concluded in 2022 after three series and an International Emmy Award.
