Bremen’s Parliament Backs Education Reform Program
Bremen, Germany – January 30, 2026 - the bremen Parliament has requested the Senate to implement a ten-point education program aimed at improving the quality of education and strengthening foundational skills like mathematics and German. The initiative seeks to bolster student competencies across the region.
The motion, brought forward by the SPD, Greens, and Left parties, received support from the FDP.SPD education expert Falko Bries emphasized the urgency of the program, stating that it is unacceptable for a portion of students to fall below minimum standards. A key focus will be on strengthening schools in disadvantaged areas.
Education senator mark Rackles (SPD) described the program as actionable and ready for swift implementation. ”All the points raised are current, and the focus will be on translating them into concrete measures so we can see tangible results and measure their impact,” Rackles stated.
The CDU and Bündnis Deutschland voted against the proposal. The CDU argued the program lacked novelty, suggesting the issue lies not in analysis but in execution. Bündnis Deutschland expressed concerns about the absence of specific measures regarding necessary personnel and funding.
