Financial Links to Epstein’s Associate
Mandelson stated to the BBC that he could not recall the circumstances surrounding a £10,000 payment made to reinaldo Avila da Silva, his partner, in 2009.This payment occurred while mandelson was serving as a government minister. The source of the funds is linked to Epstein.
Removal from Ambassadorial Post
The former European union ambassador to the UK was removed from his post in September. His appointment by Prime Minister Keir Starmer had been made in late 2024.The Guardian reported the removal followed increasing pressure regarding his relationship with Epstein.
Apology and Previous Denials
Mandelson issued an apology in January for maintaining a friendship with Epstein, a reversal from his initial stance where he denied complicity. He had previously defended the relationship, stating he was not involved in any wrongdoing.
Prince andrew Also Named in Released Files
The released files also implicate Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles in 2025 due to his association with Epstein. A second woman has come forward alleging Epstein facilitated a sexual encounter with Prince Andrew in Britain in 2010, as reported by the BBC.
