Autonomous Congressional Candidate Alleges Media Bias, Cites Lack of Coverage
Eric J. Troutman, an independent candidate running for Congress in California’s 47th district, alleges that mainstream media outlets are deliberately avoiding coverage of his campaign due to fear of an independent victory. In a press release issued January 29th from Irvine, California, Troutman claims that media attention is disproportionately focused on candidates affiliated with established political parties, while his campaign is consistently overlooked.
NewsBlaze independently verified Troutman’s claim by conducting multiple searches on the Orange County Register’s website – both through Google’s site: operator and the Register’s internal search function – using various search terms including “Eric Troutman,” “Eric J. Troutman,” ”troutman amin,” “AmericaDeservesToWin,” “TroutmanForAmerica,” and the campaign’s email address.These searches yielded no results, supporting Troutman’s assertion of a lack of coverage. While acknowledging the possibility of search limitations and archive changes,NewsBlaze reports the findings align with the candidate’s claims.
Troutman specifically pointed to recent profiles of his opponents in the Orange County Register, authored by reporter Kaitlyn schallhorn, as evidence of this bias. He characterized his opponents - one aged 28 and the other 75 – as “lightweights,” contrasting their coverage with his own professional accomplishments, including stopping billions of robocalls, disrupting the legal industry, and maintaining what he claims is the highest billing rate for an attorney globally, exceeding $4,000 per hour, and currently over $6,000.
He attributes the lack of coverage to “bias, pure and simple,” stemming from his independent status. Troutman’s campaign boasts a ample online presence, with over 100,000 subscribers to AmericaDeservesToWin.com and more than 40,000 followers with millions of views on @TroutmanForAmerica.
Following a press release distributed through Access Newswire, World City Press editor Eric Stevenson contacted Kaitlyn Schallhorn requesting comment on the Orange County Register’s coverage criteria and potential plans for a Troutman interview. As of publication, Schallhorn had not responded.
Troutman concluded by suggesting that media outlets are ”scared of” an independent candidate’s potential for success.
