Wanda Retains Ownership of Infront After Sale Talks Collapse

Wanda Group Retains Ownership of Infront Sports & ⁤Media After extensive Review

Following a strategic review spanning over two and a half years,Chinese conglomerate⁢ Wanda Group ⁢has announced its continued ownership ‍of Infront Sports & Media,a ⁤leading global sports marketing ⁤agency. The decision concludes speculation surrounding a potential sale of⁤ the Swiss-based company,‍ which Wanda acquired from Bridgepoint in 2015 for €1.05 billion (approximately $1.24 billion USD).

The review, initiated in August 2023, was prompted by financial pressures within Wanda’s ⁢core real estate and construction ⁢businesses, fueled by⁣ a broader ⁣downturn in the Chinese property market. This ‍led to consideration⁣ of divesting assets, including Infront, to strengthen the group’s financial position.Several potential buyers, including a consortium led by Boyu Capital and NJF ⁤Capital, were linked to a possible acquisition during the evaluation period.

Despite attracting “strong interest ‍and high-quality discussions” ⁤with prospective partners, Wanda ultimately persistent that ‍retaining Infront aligns with⁤ its long-term strategic objectives. The agency will continue to operate as a standalone entity under ⁣the leadership of⁤ President and CEO ⁢Philippe Blatter and⁣ his existing management team.

“This⁢ decision provides clarity and continuity ⁣for ⁢our clients, partners and employees,” stated Blatter. “Infront will continue to focus relentlessly on ⁣creating ⁢value for rights holders, ⁣brands,⁣ media partners and athletes.” He ⁢further emphasized the agency’s ⁢diversification and expansion into both professional and participation sports, ‍highlighting ⁣its strong position to capitalize on‍ opportunities within the evolving sports ecosystem.

Founded in 2002, Infront represents some of the most prominent properties ⁤in the sports⁤ world, including⁤ the Olympic Games, ⁣the Premier League, the National Basketball Association, and numerous global‍ sports ⁤federations. The agency holds a notably strong presence in winter sports, representing six of the ⁣seven Olympic winter sports federations, such as the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). ⁤

Beyond rights management, Infront’s Host Broadcasting⁣ Services ⁢(HBS) delivers high-profile event production for major competitions ⁢like the FIFA World⁢ Cup and Rugby World Cup. ⁢In 2022, the company expanded its portfolio through the majority acquisition of Hyrox, a rapidly growing indoor‍ fitness competition.

Currently,⁤ Infront maintains partnerships with over 200 rights holders across more than 30 sports, operates a network of over 40 offices⁢ in over 20 countries, ⁣and reported revenues exceeding €1.2 ‍billion (approximately $1.4 billion USD) in 2025.

Recent years have seen Infront strategically refine its⁤ business focus, divesting ⁤its technology-focused divisions. Infront X, formerly the agency’s professional services and digital ⁢product business, was acquired by Next League ‍in early 2023, ‍while Infront Lab was sold ‍to WSC Sports in 2025.These moves underscore Infront’s‍ commitment to its core competencies in sports ‍marketing, media rights management, and event production.
