Newly released emails show astonishing new details about Andrew’s visit to Jeffrey Epstein‘s New York mansion in 2010, where he claims to have ‘broken up their friendship’
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor claimed he flew to New York to cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein once and for all – but newly released emails paint a different picture.
The ex-prince once claimed that the only reason he travelled across the Atlantic in 2010 and stayed at the convicted sex offender’s opulent Manhattan mansion was because he thought ending their friendship in person was the “right thing to do”. Suggesting that a simple phone call would have been the “chicken’s way of doing it,” Andrew told the BBC in 2019: “I had to go and see him and talk to him.”
Andrew denied being the “guest of honour” at a party celebrating Epstein’s release, instead telling journalist Emily Maitlis that there was only a “small dinner party”. The former prince said he regretted staying at Epstein’s home in “hindsight”, arguing it was a “convenient place to stay” and that he had other things to do in New York while he was there. He also claimed that he did not know who else had visited the property during his visit.

However, newly released emails in the latest ‘Epstein files’ shed new light on the now-notorious visit. The correspondance suggests, contrary to previous claims, that Andrew stayed at the property for nine days, during which “girls came after school” (this could refer university or college students) and Epstein asked his accountant to bring him a $5,000 wad of cash. Epstein’s hospitality toward Andrew seemed intense in the emails; he seems to have provided him with a driver and even organised ‘facials’ during his stay.
Photographs of the pair during the visit sparked global astonishment at the time, but Andrew claimed he only saw Epstein three times during his stay. The Mirror has trawled through the files in question to reveal everything we now know about the nine-day trip….
Monday 29 November
Epstein made 32 outgoing calls on the day Andrew arrived in New York, including one to the UK. Bank records released in the files show that the disgraced financier spent just under $150k that day, including payments to a concrete company, construction companies, and one $9000 dollar to a redacted account with the note “promissory”. He emailed his accountant telling him to send someone called “Veronika” “9k and a loan agreement”.
Epstein received an email that afternoon that said, “She keeps calling to ask about her transfer. She says it hasnt come through.”
An account called “The Duke” emailed him at 6.43pm saying “Landed. Just clearing formalities. A”. Later, an email was received that said: “The Duke’s protection officer, Julian, is hoping The Duke (and his officers) could have a temporary code to get in and out of the house”.
Epstein also sent an email to account that has been redacted saying: “Prince Andrew is staying with me Tomorrow? Wed?” He mentioned Andrew again in another email to a billionaire businessman, writing: “Andrew in ny with me for week . Great insights”
The sex offender and his assistant also arranged for Andrew for two people to “give the Duke a facial tomorrow at one.” He also emailed another businessman bragging that Andrew was staying and asking if he wanted to get breakfast with them.
Andrew’s aide emailed Epstein coverage of the King’s brother being caught up in the “Wikileaks scandal” with “claims of inappropriate behaviour”. That evening, “The Duke” forwards another email about finances from his aide at the time, Amanda Thirsk, to Epstein.
Epstein seems to message someone that day asking “what is your bra and panty size dear?”
Tuesday 30 November
Epstein’s bank accounts showed he sent a $500 transfer to someone for “gifts” and his emails show him instructing his accountant to “send another 500 euros to emily”.
Someone emailed Epstein asking if “Any chance [redacted] could take the girls to school tomorrow at 7:45?”
Epstein sent out another message to a contact saying, “Prince Andrew is staying wiht [sic] me in New york this week, Im sure he would enjoy meeting you”.
Another email from a girl reads: “Hi Jeffrey I’m working and school tomorrow, Wed I can come between 4 and 6.30.” She also asked him for money to purchase “some point shoes (sic) for [ballet] rehearsals”
It should be noted that in the US “school” can refer to university or college as well as secondary education.
The sex offender received another email that said, “Jeffrey, are you free tomorrow at 2 for [redacted] had a really special time today!!!” In the same chain of messages the same person wrote, “i”m still waiting for the photos, will send you as soon as I get them. I know you’ll really like the one from belorus” and also writes: “[Redacted] has a school from 4 to 8, she will need to leave around 3.40.”
The Mail reports that Andrew received an email from Buckingham Palace about his trade envoy work, including “Whitehall reports from his recent trip to China, Vietnam and Singapore” and forwarded it to Jeffrey – who he later claimed he was about to break off relations with.
Wednesday 1 December
On Tuesday it was confirmed in an email that Katie Couric was “in” for the dinner Epstein was planning. They had mused over whether to invite Kate Winslet, and Mick Jagger declined the invite, because he was not in New York. An email claims that the Rolling Stones icon “would love to come to your dinner party but is in France at the moment. She said he will be in NY after the New Year and would love to connect then.”
The dinner was reported to be to celebrate Epstein’s release. Woody Allen and wife Soon-Yi were on the invite list.
“The Duke” sent Epstein a video file named “Armageddon”.
Thursday 2 December
Epstein’s correspondence the day of the party was concerned with getting the event just right, including the number of “leopard chairs” in his possession – 10 if you were wondering. Peggy Seigal, publicist for Harvey Weinstein’s film The King’s Speech, told Epstein she was becoming “hysterical” over the “table decor”. “I am going to be HYSTERICAL all day unless someone shares the game plan. xoxo Peg,” she wrote.
An email from the assistant showed just how stakes the decorating was becoming for the party at which Andrew was allegedly guest of honour: “Peggy is calling me back in 30 min…she wants to know what color the tablecloth and cushions are going to be tonight! Please let me know!!” A third email was given the subject line: “Peggy is having a nervous breakdown” and emphasised the importance of their being flowers for the party.
However, it seems like Peggy wasn’t the only one sweating the small stuff: that day Epstein received an email from a redacted account that said, “I realize you are stressed. Palm beach needs to be a rest for you. you cry over the number of chairs. or cry again over the fact that i didn’t like what side tables you chose.”
Magician David Blaine “might come,” some of the emails suggest, and talk show host Charlie Rose was confirmed as coming along and bringing a guest. One email says: “Peggy thinks you should do place cards so the Duke does not get stuck sitting next to someone who is boring. Peggy thinks he should for sure sit next to Katie Couric”.
Various emails are sent from Epstein’s assistant confirming timings for women to come round – the identities of whom are redacted. An email address contacted Epstein saying that they had heard “You and PA are in NYC having fun. I told her I’m in London and not informed about the programme.”
Amid all the chaos of the party, Epstein received a chilling email from a redacted account. “Hi Jeffrey! How are you? I was finally able to work things out with a dance school to do the massage arrangement.”
It has been widely alleged by Epstein’s victims that they were initially recruited by his partner Ghislaine Maxwell to give him massages, before they were sexually assaulted.
Epstein also suggests dinner during the visit with Andrew at a luxurious Italian restaurant, Lavo, to one of his redacted contacts and their friend. They reply to say they can get there for 9.30pm.
The guest list for the party is included in one email, and corresponding with Andrew’s claims, Peggy Seigal says “am still inviting, but it’s small.”
“The Duke” appears to forward Epstein an email he received through the palace from a fuel distribution company, and he asked his sex offender pal if he knows anyone who would like to invest.
Epstein also emails a model saying he will “gladly” pay for her travel documents and flights, as she runs into visa issues.
Friday 3 December
Ghislaine Maxwell emails Epstein saying she will try and pop round after dinner. His assistant asks if “you want to call Shaikh Abdulla with Andrew”.
Epstein took the time to correspond with some ballerinas, and a redacted account about their recipe for diet cookies, and offer help with the Russian embassy.
That evening, Andrew is reported to have gone out with Mark Packer.
Press interest has already been generated at this early stage about the dinner, with an account seeming to belong to Katie Couric fowarding a press request to Peggy Seigal and writing: “Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Saturday 4 December
Epstein sends an email asking if there is “Anyone new for tonight” – the person replies, “not yet, but I’m working on that!”
He also receives an email about a “half swiss, half russian” woman who is due to visit New York shortly.
Epstein and Andrew went shopping at Barney’s, where he instructed Faith Kates – NEXT Model management founder – to meet them at 12. Epstein also emails a redacted account saying, “Anytime this weekend? Andrew is at the house. come and visit”.
He also asks someone to call him and Andrew about “opportunities in Africa”.
Sunday 5 December
Soon Yi Previn and Woody Allen pop round for a breakfast of bagels, while Katie Couric demures – saying she “would love to but have a crazy, packed weekend”.
The account seemingly belonging to Couric wrote: “Thanks so much for the invitation…and thankyou so much for dinner…that was an interesting, very eclectic crowd, and I know you’re not a foodie, but the lasagna was ROCKIN’! Thanks for include me and Brooks! Have a great weekend! Katie.”
Epstein replies, “Andrew and I are disappointed , fully understand.”
This is the day that the pair were snapped walking in Central Park, and Andrew claims marked the end of their friendship.
They went to a private members club beforehand, the Mail reports.
Monday 6 December
Andrew, who claims he only saw Epstein three times during the trip, alleges this is the day he went home. But correspondence shows, according to the Mail, that Peggy Seigal wrote in an email: “It’s Andrew’s last night. Want to come or help?”
Someone emailed Epstein saying, “I was given $5000 which came from Bella. I have put in your black bag.”
An email from Epstein reportedly says that model Naomi Campbell and her boyfriend were ‘coming for dinner at 9 if you want?”
Andrew was pictured at the door of the mansion waving goodbye to a woman.
Tuesday 7 December
Finally, the King’s brother heads home. Someone emails Epstein, seemingly annoyed they didn’t make the cut for Andrew’s dinner, writing: “So you invite Woody Allen and not me? What am I, chopped liver?”
Andrew seems to have enjoyed his time in New York, despite claiming it marked the end of an era and his friendship with Epstein. “The Duke” sent a York Family Christmas Card to the sex offender just weeks later accompanied by an email that said: “Dear J, Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and spectacular entry into 2011. It was great to spend time with my US family. Looking forward to joining you all again soon. A”
The release of the Epstein files has seen many examples of correspondence seeming to continue between the two men long after Andrew claimed to have cute ties. Andrew has not commented on the latest Epstein files but has previously strongly denied all wrondgoing.
