Nauticam has launched its dedicated underwater housing for the Canon EOS R6 V camera. Priced at $5,400, the aluminum housing is machined for professional filmmakers and arrives pre-installed with vacuum checks, moisture alarms, and handles, bringing full optical compatibility to Canon’s video-first full-frame hybrid.
Canon introduced its first V-series camera in May, building the system around a 32.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor. While sharing much of its core sensor architecture with the EOS R6 Mark III, the R6 V leans heavily into serious video production. It handles 7K internal 12-bit RAW recording, 7K Open Gate capture, oversampled 4K up to 60p, and uncropped 4K 120p for slow-motion sequences. To support extended or unlimited recording times without overheating, engineers added an internal cooling fan. That video-first focus eliminates the built-in viewfinder, leaving operators to compose entirely on the rear screen or an external monitor.
Engineering the NA-R6V Housing for Submerged Filmmakers
Because the EOS R6 V relies on external monitoring rather than an eye-level finder, how a housing manages displays and controls underwater is critical. Nauticam machined the NA-R6V from solid aluminum, hard-anodized the exterior, and rated the system for depths up to 100 meters. The enclosure measures 358mm wide, 201mm high, and 134mm deep, weighing 2.96kg in air while engineered to sit neutrally buoyant with the camera and battery inside.
Out of the box, the system ships ready for the water. The handles, stabilizing brackets, and moisture alarm battery are pre-installed by the manufacturer alongside a pre-installed vacuum check and leak detection system.
Mission Control Layout and Dual-Function Lens Control
Underwater operators often struggle with cluttered controls on moving reefs, but Nauticam has arranged essential functions directly next to the ergonomic MIL handles. A Rotary Housing Lock secures the camera platform into a rigid frame that resists twisting even when weighed down with external monitors and lighting rigs.
An AF-ON lever sits underneath the right thumb, while a playback lever falls naturally to the left. The standout mechanical addition is a patent-pending dual-function lens control knob. A single wheel operates both zoom and focus, toggled by a dedicated lever positioned directly beneath it. This setup allows shooters to control power-zoom and manual-focus RF lenses without needing duplicate gears inside the housing.
Port Systems and Water-Contact Optics Compatibility
High-resolution sensors demand glass capable of handling punishing aquatic environments. The NA-R6V opens the camera to the company’s N120 Auto Lock Port System II, which uses a positive, tool-free locking action to seat dome and flat ports securely. The N120 port system accommodates both RF- and EF-mount lenses via the RF Lens Gear System II.
For lighting and monitoring flexibility, the housing supports full-size HDMI 2.0 and 1.4 outputs, integrating smoothly with Nauticam monitor housings built for Atomos Ninja TX, Ninja TX GO, and Ninja RAW devices. Shooters also gain access to a broad suite of water-contact optics, including the FCP-1, WWL-C, SMC-3, and CMC-2 lenses, designed to maintain corner-to-corner sharpness beneath the surface.
