Chrome Sparks Announces New Album ‘Ball of Light,’ Shares Single Featuring Khalid and Jónsi

Electronic artist and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Malvin, known professionally as Chrome Sparks, has announced his upcoming studio album, Ball of Light. Slated for release on September 11 through Chrome Sounds and AWAL, the project arrives alongside its first single, “Sleeper.”

The track features guest appearances from Khalid and Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi. It pairs Khalid’s soulful delivery with Jónsi’s unmistakable falsetto against shimmering electronic textures and lush, cinematic production.

Reclaiming a Solo Identity After Seven Years

The new project marks a broader creative reset for the producer. Malvin spent the past several years focusing heavily on collaborative work and studio projects for other musicians.

Over the last seven years, he concentrated mostly on collaborations and other artists’ projects, noting that Ball of Light is him finding himself again.

Building on an Underground Legacy

Ball of Light serves as Chrome Sparks’ first full-length solo project since his 2018 self-titled debut. It follows earlier releases like Goddess and Be on Fire.

Described as his most personal work yet, the record reconnects with the distinct blend of ambient composition, electronic music, and emotionally resonant songwriting that initially earned him acclaim following his breakthrough track “Marijuana.” At the same time, the new material expands those foundational elements into more expansive territory.

Pop Collaborations and Ann Arbor Roots

While maintaining a lower profile as a solo recording artist in recent years, Malvin has kept busy working behind the boards for a diverse roster of pop and indie acts.

His recent production credits include tracks for Slayyyter, Lily Allen, Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Mallrat.

Malvin’s roots in the music industry stretch back to his college days at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He lived in an apartment situated above Wazoo Records.

In a previous interview with SPIN, he recalled spending hours flipping through the record store’s bargain bins while living on the building’s third floor.

The Road to the September 11 Launch

Listeners looking to follow the rollout can check official music platforms and independent music distributors for updates on pre-orders and upcoming singles.
