Audi has brought its first high-performance plug-in hybrid to the Philippines, unveiling the 2026 Audi RS 5 Avant PHEV at Manila’s Power Plant Mall. The high-performance sport station wagon pairs a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor to produce 639 horsepower and an electric-only range of up to 83 kilometers.
Powertrain, Performance, and the First Hybrid RS Wagon
Audi’s transition from traditional combustion engines to electrified performance reaches a major milestone with the introduction of its first high-performance plug-in hybrid.
Propelling the vehicle is a reworked 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 TFSI engine, paired with an electric motor sandwiched directly between the engine and an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. Together, the hybrid powertrain cranks out a combined 639 horsepower and 825 Newton-meters of torque, sent to all four wheels via a permanent quattro all-wheel-drive system equipped with a self-locking center differential. International driving impressions note that the electric motor alone develops 174 horsepower, contributing to an eye-watering zero-to-60-mph time of just 3.3 seconds in UK testing, while local Philippine specifications cite a top speed of 285 kilometers per hour.
Energy for the electric side comes from a 25.9-kWh battery pack. According to local distributor announcements, that capacity yields an electric-only driving range of up to 83 km, allowing owners to cruise on battery power alone during daily commutes before the gasoline engine chirps in.
Chassis Engineering and Weight Management
Marrying a traditional high-output V6 with heavy electrical components required extensive engineering modifications. International reporting highlights that the new estate tips the scales at just over 2.3 tonnes, making it more than 500 kilograms heavier than its predecessor. To handle this mass, Audi engineers developed a clean-sheet rear axle
designed specifically to accommodate the rear-mounted drive motor and high-voltage battery while managing extreme longitudinal and lateral physics.
Suspension duties are handled by an RS-spec setup featuring controlled two-valve dampers, paired with a stiffened unibody structure and reinforced underchassis components, including revised rubber bushings and control arms. While the vehicle does an admirable job masking its substantial heft through the twisties, reviewers note that the firmest suspension setting can feel punishing on poorly maintained road surfaces.
Cabin Layout, Cargo Tradeoffs, and Technology
Inside, the RS 5 Avant balances track-ready aggression with executive daily usability. The cabin centers on Audi Sport seats wrapped in fine nappa leather with honeycomb stitching and contrast piping, accompanied by a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters. Front occupants enjoy heating, ventilation, massage functions, and pneumatic lumbar support, while passengers across all three zones are cooled by an automatic climate control system.

In the Philippines, official distributor PGA Cars Incorporated has placed the vehicle on public display at the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell alongside Q3 and Q5 hybrid models.
On the safety front, the plug-in hybrid is outfitted with comprehensive passive protection—including front, side, and head airbag systems alongside a front interaction airbag—coupled with the extensive Audi Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus suite.
