The US dollar held steady against major currencies during Asian trading hours, maintaining stability as regional markets parse recent monetary policy shifts and currency interventions.
In the regional sessions, the Japanese yen edged up to 158.93 against the US dollar. Despite this modest upward movement, the currency remained well away from its three-month high of 155.20 registered a week prior. That peak followed a rare joint intervention by Washington and Tokyo in late July aimed at bolstering the yen through coordinated market purchases.
Meanwhile, the Australian dollar held firm at 0.7057 against its US counterpart. Investor attention across the region shifted toward the upcoming monetary policy announcement from the Reserve Bank of Australia, where markets widely anticipated that policymakers would opt to leave the benchmark interest rate unchanged.
Additional major currency pairs saw tight ranges during Asian hours. The euro traded at 1.1544 against the dollar, while the British pound stabilized at 1.3509.
