Richard Nordås is returning to screens as a participant on the upcoming season of the Norwegian reality series «Farmen», set on Odden gård in Notodden. Nordås, who previously appeared on the 2024 season of «Gift ved første blikk» on TVNorge, confirmed his participation to Norwegian media ahead of the show’s premiere on TV 2 following a hiatus.
Known for his outspoken commentary on gender roles and masculinity during his previous television stint, Nordås acknowledged that his appearance on the farm-based competition is driven by a desire for visibility. In an interview conducted prior to production, he stated that he embraces the attention and aims to provide entertainment for viewers while learning practical skills on the farm.
«I am pro-attention, plain and simple. I love attention, and I love making a show,» Nordås said.
Reflecting on Past Reality TV Portrayals
During his time on «Gift ved første blikk», Nordås was paired with Naoual Lahlali Pedersen in a televised wedding, a relationship that ultimately ended in a separation following public disagreements. His remarks regarding gender dynamics generated discussion among viewers.
Reflecting on that experience, Nordås described his television persona as a mix of entertainment and pointed commentary. He expressed skepticism toward modern social norms, arguing that public discourse has become overly restrictive.
«In ‘Gift ved første blikk’ I was an entertaining mix of a clown and a reflective guy. I am a person who dares to speak my mind in a society where no one dares to say anything anymore,» Nordås remarked.
Looking ahead to his time on «Farmen», the 53-year-old participant noted he does not intend to deliberately cultivate a caricature, despite anticipating that his personality and viewpoints might provoke debate among fellow contestants and viewers.
Focusing on Societal Debates and Personal Background
Nordås indicated that the platform provided by reality television could serve as an avenue to discuss broader social themes, specifically addressing the psychological well-being of men and evolving societal roles. He questioned the direction of contemporary cultural trends regarding gender and identity.
When discussing his inclination toward challenging authority and standing out in group settings, Nordås linked aspects of his adult demeanor to his childhood experiences. As the son of a father in the Armed Forces, his family relocated frequently during his youth. He suggested that constantly moving and having to re-establish a social standing contributed to an inherent reluctance to easily conform to group hierarchies later in life.
«Maybe there has been so much adaptation in upbringing that I have developed a counter-reaction in adulthood. I actually find it very difficult to adapt now. I have an inherent contempt for authority,» he explained.
As production gets underway at Odden gård, Nordås acknowledged that his direct communication style and competitive nature could create friction within the communal living environment of the farm, adding that he intends to let other contestants form their own opinions of him without actively seeking universal popularity.
