Paramount Skydance is weighing a relocation of its historic corporate headquarters away from California, according to reporting published by Axios. David Ellison, chief executive officer of the studio, discussed moving the headquarters during a recent executive meeting in response to antitrust challenges threatening the company’s major media merger.
The studio’s executive leadership is considering alternative locations including Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia, as reported by Axios. Ellison reportedly cited an October 1 deadline during the meeting, noting that the studio plans to move the headquarters if negotiations regarding ongoing antitrust litigation do not reach a resolution by that date.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta sharply criticized the reported relocation discussions during a public statement. Bonta characterized the studio’s consideration of leaving the state as an attempt to pressure government officials, stating that Paramount Skydance is trying to intimidate the state government to push through an illegal transaction and declaring that such tactics will not work.
Industry analysts and observers remain divided on whether a physical departure from Southern California is entirely feasible. While the region anchors the broader motion picture labor force and executive talent pool, corporate headquarters relocations remain logistically possible. Other state governments have actively courted the studio, with a prominent example occurring when the lieutenant governor of Tennessee sent a direct formal letter inviting Paramount to relocate its headquarters to the state, according to previous reporting by The Hollywood Reporter.

The legal standoff underscores deep friction between major entertainment conglomerates and state regulators enforcing competition laws.
