Mark Gurman de la Bloomberg suggests that Apple could strengthen its presence in emerging markets with an iPhone at around $250, using more economical components such as LCD screens and plastic housings. However, despite global market growth in the first three months of 2024, Apple’s market share has declinedparticularly in China, a key market for the company.

Apple’s strategy of offering exclusively premium products has limited iPhone adoption among budget-conscious consumers. The slow pace of updates and the lack of major innovations between generations do not give users much reason to upgrade frequently. That could be an opportunity for Apple to reevaluate its approach and attract new market segments.

A new model is being discussed iPhone SE, which could cost $400, a price that might be too high for consumers in developing markets given the cheaper alternatives from Chinese manufacturers. This situation puts pressure on Apple to offer a more competitive alternative. This isn’t the first time Apple has tried to launch more affordable products; remember the iPhone 5Cintroduced in 2013, which tried to attract price-sensitive market segments, but without the expected success.

Looking ahead, it remains to be seen whether Apple will adopt this strategy of entering emerging markets with a more affordable product. Such a move could have a significant impact on how the brand is perceived and on its global expansion.
